Just wanted to record my disgust at the Kingsnorth verdict.
Vandalism is vandalism, period. What would be the verdict if someone scrawled on the LHC because it might create a black hole?
"This verdict marks a tipping point for the climate change movement, said Ben Stewart, one of the Greenpeace activists. If jurors from the heart of Middle England say its legitimate for a direct action group to shut down a coal-fired power station because of the harm it does to our planet, then where does that leave government energy policy?"
Well, Ben Stewart, as someone who knows a lot about our energy strategy, I say this: if we have an increase in numbers of Excess Winter Deaths this year or any coming year as a result of you or your "direct action groups" shutting down coal plants, I hope someone comes after you, Greenpeace and every protestor with a charge of manslaughter.
If no-one more capable comes forward, I'll do it myself.

I'm not in favour of any form of violence or vandalism. But, this was a jury decision not a judge one. Perhaps this decision indicates how strongly people in general feel about fossil fuels.
