Presumably that means we're in for some cooling. Or maybe we've already had some cooling because of the whole 8-year thing?

A new cycle is expected to be quite strong:

"The Sun is currently near its minimum activity, at the tail end of a solar cycle, numbered 23. "Onset of the next cycle will be delayed by six to 12 months, to late 2007 or early 2008," Dikpati says. She expects the next peak to hit in 2012."

Interestingly, the UK Hadley Centre stated earlier in the year that global warming would styart in earnest in 2009. Nothing to do with the sun, though, right?
